Streetly Crematorium is located on Little Hardwick Road, Aldridge, with the postal address 296 Little Hardwick Road, Walsall WS9 0SG.
Little Hardwick Road links the A452 Chester Road and the local road network around Aldridge and Streetly; the crematorium sits approximately midway between Walsall town centre and Sutton Coldfield, in a semi‑rural corridor on the eastern side of Walsall Borough.
The setting is characterised by open land, trees and neighbouring cemetery and memorial ground areas, giving a quieter, green environment away from dense housing or industrial estates.
The main entrance is directly off Little Hardwick Road and is signposted “Streetly Crematorium”; visitors follow the internal roadway towards the car park and chapels. There is a one‑way system in place from the entrance.
Exit traffic flows (generally) nicely due to the one way system reducing congestion during busy periods. With two chapels, the Crematorium can get busy.
The crematorium shares its general location with Streetly Cemetery and memorial grounds. Visitors will notice cemetery sections and memorial gardens around the crematorium buildings as a key landmark to get bearings. It is a large site.
There are 57 on-site parking spaces including designated disabled bays, all accessed from the main Little Hardwick Road entrance.
For SatNav users, entering the postcode WS9 0SG and "Streetly Crematorium" will usually bring drivers to the main entrance on Little Hardwick Road.
Where is the Car Park located?
Streetly Crematorium has an on‑site car park within the grounds, accessed via the main entrance from Little Hardwick Road and reached by following the internal roadway towards the chapels.
There are 57 car parking spaces in total, including 6 disabled access spaces. All parking is adjacent to the chapel buildings.
The distance from the car park to the chapel entrances is approximately 30m.
With the two chapels (East) having a capacity of 50 attendees and West having a capacity of 90, as you can imagine, the car park can get filled pretty quickly.
With mourners arriving 20-30 minutes before the Service begins, the cross-over traffic can fill the car park quite quickly and still have a large queue of cars waiting to enter to find a spot to park. Attendees/mourners are encouraged by the Crematorium to car share when possible to maximize available space. It will be an emotional time, anxiety ("Being on time") can lead to 'situations'.
Blue Badge parking
There are just 6 parking bays designated for disabled access parking. Four are closer than the two other bays which are located at the far edge of the carpark. It is approximately 35m from the four bays to the chapel entrance. As with other UK crematoriums, these bays can be identified by standard blue badge markings and signage. Please do not park in a Blue Badge parking bay if you are not disabled.
Assistance (Guide) dogs
The chapels are fully accessible and equipped for people with disabilities. Assistance dogs are permitted into the chapels. Water bowls can be asked for if required.

Number, names and layout
Streetly Crematorium has two chapels: the West Chapel and the East Chapel.
The West Chapel
Larger of the two (capacity up to about 90 attendees) and
The East Chapel
Smaller (around 50 seats).
Having two chapels offers families a choice of size depending on the anticipated attendance numbers. Both chapels are within the same crematorium complex and share the same general car park and grounds.
The chapels are fully accessible and equipped with an induction loop for hard‑of‑hearing mourners, as well as braille and large‑print hymn or service books available on request. Both chapels are described as 'modern, purpose‑built spaces with digital music facilities, a digital organ, Obitus system and external speakers to accommodate larger congregations who may stand outside'. The original chapel dates back to the mid-50's. The present chapel was built some 40-years ago.
Allotted and Service timings
A standard cremation service at Streetly Crematorium (The Chapel Allotted time) is 45 minutes; of which 30 minutes is the time allotted for the service. This 45‑minute slot includes arrival, the service and departure, and forms the basis for scheduling consecutive services during the day.
Direct cremations are also offered, with no formal service or mourners in attendance; these are arranged separately through Bereavement Services and funeral directors such as Variety Funerals.
Religious Symbols
The facilities include removable religious symbols to support different faith traditions and can be removed according to the wishes of the family. Types of symbols (for example, cross, Star of David, other icons) are available if wanted. Both chapels are flexible, multi‑faith venues.
Chapel Seating
The larger West Chapel accommodates around 90 mourners seated, while the East Chapel seats around 50. In addition, there is standing room for further mourners in and around the chapels. For services with larger numbers not able to be accommodated in the chapel, there is an external speaker system that can relay the service outside.
Wheelchair users and people with mobility issues have also been considered in the overall chapel layout. Families who need particular seating arrangements or wheelchair spaces would typically coordinate this via myself (Chris Tabor) who will liaise with the crematorium staff in advance.
Entrance into the chapel
For wheelchair users, the main chapel doors are sufficiently wide to meet accessibility standards for mobility aids.
There are outer doors into a waiting room area (where the toilets are located) and then there are two inner doors for the chapel
Porte‑Cochère
Streetly Crematorium has an extensive and large Porte‑Cochère (covered canopy at the entrance of the chapels) with five large pillars holding up the impressive structure extending the length of the building for both the East and West Chapels. The Porte‑Cochère is a place to keep dry if it were to rain, or for those standing out side listening to the service being conducted.
Exit door from the chapel
Both chapels are pretty much identical (West is slightly bigger). The chapels are back to back as such the exit doors are in almost identical places (but reverse).
East
When looking to the front of the chapel, the exit door is to the left of the lectern and Catafalque.
West
When looking to the front of the chapel, the exit door is to the right of the lectern and Catafalque.
Catafalque
In both chapels, the catafalque is directly in front of each of the chapel doors.
Catafalque Curtains
East
The catafalque curtains are BLUE in colour and take approximately 25 seconds to close.
West
The catafalque curtains are RED in colour and also take approximately 25 seconds to close.
Music Streaming and Webcast
Both Streetly Crematorium chapels use the Obitus music system. Obitus have tens of thousands of music tracks in their catalogue. If they have not got the commercially track you wish to have they will order it in. There is no charge for this. Let me know which track(s) you wish to have and I will arrange/sort it out.
Type of Chapel: Obitus Super Venue?
Streetly Crematorium is not yet an Obitus Super Venue.

Organ/Piano
Both chapels contain a digital organ. However, an organist is not included in the Crematorium fees.
The waiting Room
Both chapels at Streetly Crematorium have “waiting areas” (as opposed to actual separate waiting rooms).
The waiting areas are just inside the main (outer) doors of each chapel. Each waiting area contains a water fountain, a Disabled toilet and a uni-sex toilet. Each waiting area contains a screen/monitor with a live feed from the chapel and is centrally heated for cold autumn/winter days.
Toilets
Both chapels (East and West) at Streetly Crematorium have public toilets available. As mentioned above, they are located in the waiting areas of each chapel - one wheelchair accessible toilet and once large unisex toilet.
Cemetery
Streetly Crematorium stands within a larger complex that includes cemetery grounds and areas for interment of ashes, commonly referred to as Streetly Cemetery.
The combined crematorium and cemetery site opened in 1984.
Streetly’s memorial gardens include options such as Bon Accord plaques which can house up to two caskets of ashes, above‑ground vaults and granite kerb plaques that line walkways.
Gardens
The combined crematorium and cemetery grounds at Streetly extend to about 27 acres (almost 11 hectares). The gardens are very well attended, the grass is kept short and the flowers grown are beautifully looked-after.
The memorial gardens are planted with a mixture of deciduous and evergreen trees and woodland style planting, providing space for scattering ashes and placing memorials. Pathways through the gardens feature granite kerb plaques and other memorial features. The overall layout creates quiet, reflective areas rather than a formal ornamental park. Wandering round the crematorium is a beautiful experience - peaceful, beautiful and restful.
There are seating and resting points scattered throughout the site for visitors and mourners to contemplate the overall beauty of the site. Currently everything is spaced out - a more dignified and respectful feeling, in my opinion.
Streetly offers a variety of memorial options, including Bon Accord plaques (which can house ashes), above‑ground vaults and granite kerb plaques; further memorial types and detailed regulations are set out by Walsall Bereavement Services in their general cemeteries and memorials information on their website.
Floral Tributes, displays, wreaths and bouquets
Outside each of the chapels are areas for families to place their floral Tributes (wreaths, sprays, bouquets and so forth).
Removal of Flower Tributes
Floral tributes are asked to be removed as soon as possible. More and more families are taking their tributes onto the wake/get-together after the service and then taking them home to enjoy their beauty for a few more days to remember their loved on.
Book of Remembrance
Streetly Crematorium's Book of Remembrance room is situated approximately 40 feet from each of the Chapel's exit doors - to the rear of the chapel, close to the main car park.
Memorial Wall Plaques
Streetly Crematorium’s memorial gardens include granite kerb plaques lining walkways and Bon Accord plaques which can house up to two caskets of ashes. These serve as memorial plaques within the garden setting rather than a single “memorial wall” as some crematoria provide.
Heaven Post Box
Streetly Crematorium does not have a “Heaven Post Box”.
ASHES
Interment of Ashes
Streetly Crematorium’s memorial gardens offer several options for cremated remains. Ashes can be interred or scattered in accordance with the applicant’s wishes. The gardens provide plenty of space to scatter a loved one’s ashes.
Memorial options include Bon Accord plaques which can house up to two caskets of ashes, above‑ground vaults and granite kerb plaques along the walkways of the gardens.
Burial
Streetly Crematorium is part of Walsall’s cemetery and crematorium provision, with cemetery sections that include graves and cremated remains plots.
Families seeking traditional burial or natural burial options speak directly to Bereavement Services for specific cemetery allocations.
Scattering
Scattering of ashes is explicitly supported at Streetly Crematorium within its memorial gardens. After cremation, ashes can be collected, interred or scattered in accordance with the applicant’s wishes. The gardens provide landscaped areas with trees and planting, designed in part for scattering ceremonies and private reflection. As a Celebrant I can offer servicers such as Burial, scattering of Ashes, interment of ashes and of course Cremation services.
Dove Release
Dove‑release can be performed at Streetly Crematorium; its wide open spaces and blue skies areas lend it self perfectly for this. Whether you want three or more doves, give me a call and I can organize this for you.
Streetly Crematorium was developed by Walsall Council and opened in 1984 to serve the growing cremation needs of the borough and surrounding areas between Walsall and Sutton Coldfield.
It replaced an earlier crematorium dating from 1955 in the Walsall area, reflecting the wider shift in the UK from burial to cremation during the later twentieth century. The site occupies around 27 acres on the eastern side of Walsall Borough, combining the crematorium buildings, a cemetery area for interments and extensive memorial gardens and woodland‑style planting. It is truly a beautiful setting.
The buildings are designed in a contemporary but deliberately understated style, with sand‑coloured brickwork and distinctive asymmetric rooflines which make the complex recognizable from a distance while still sitting quietly within the landscape.
There are two chapels on the site – the West Chapel (larger, around 90 seats) and the East Chapel (smaller, around 50 seats) – giving families a choice of scale and ambience depending on anticipated attendance and personal preference. Both chapels were conceived as multi‑faith spaces and are equipped with removable religious symbols so that Christian, non‑religious and other faith services can all be accommodated respectfully.
The grounds were laid out as memorial gardens with a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees, woodland‑style beds and pathways to provide quiet areas for reflection and for scattering or interment of ashes.
Over time, Walsall Council has added a range of memorial options in these gardens, including Bon Accord plaques which can house up to two caskets of ashes, above‑ground vaults and granite kerb plaques lining the walkways. This allows families to choose between more formal memorialisation and simpler scattering in the Gardens of Remembrance.
As a Funeral Celebrant, I have conducted services in this beautiful, intimate and well looked-after crematorium. It is always a wonderful experience to be there and take full advantage of everything the crematorium has to offer for the families I look after. The staff are very friendly and accommodating - always willing to go that extra mile, which when it comes to most council owned crematoria, is far a few between - that is my own personal opinion and experience.
